Technology

We believe that people should have their own healthy teeth for life. To support that belief, our practice is committed to using the latest technology available to enhance patient care. Advanced training in endodontics coupled with the use of new technologies results in a positive patient experience and makes root canal treatment safer, faster, more effective, and predictable.

Below are some of the important advances we use to better treat our patients:

Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) A cone-beam CT (computed tomography) scan provides for highly accurate, three-dimensional radiographic images for the diagnosis, planning, and treatment of endodontic disease. This technology allows for three-dimensional visualization of teeth, bone, sinuses, and surrounding structures with minimal radiation to the patient, enabling a level of anatomical accuracy and patient care not possible with regular dental x-rays. We are able to view microscopic sections of teeth and surrounding structures in all three planes: top to bottom, side to side, and front to back.

Digital X-Rays/Imaging By using computerized digital x-rays, we can reduce the radiation to our patients by nearly 90%. A comfortable sensor pad is used, instead of film, to capture an instant image, which also means shorter visits for our patients. Because they’re digital, these x-rays can be enhanced by the computer for improved visualization. The ability to see subtleties using digital radiography is crucial to diagnosis, collaboration, and patient communication. A printed report, including these x-rays, is sent to your dentist after your visit with us.

Microscope Our doctors use a surgical operating microscope during treatment to allow for enhanced vision, through illumination and magnification, of the minutest details inside your tooth, such as complex root canal anatomy, extra or calcified canals, and fracture lines. This technology dramatically improves the diagnosis, treatment, and outcome of your root canal.

Digital Imaging Through the microscope, we are able to take digital pictures and videos of your tooth. These images can be sent to your dentist for increased communication of your specific needs. Digital imaging of your root canal system also allows us to improve treatment explanations during your examination, allowing you to visualize your need for dental treatment.

Apex Locator This device helps to precisely measure the length of the tooth’s roots electronically for complete cleaning of the tooth. Because it is very accurate, it reduces the number of x-rays normally needed during the procedure. Used along with digital x-rays, this device lowers patient radiation exposure even further.

Ultrasonics An Alternative to the Drill—Instead of using a drill inside your tooth, this device vibrates a diamond-coated metal tip at high frequency. Because it is very small, it can be used under the microscope for precise removal of small amounts of tooth or fillings, allowing for conservative treatment of your tooth. Our doctors also use quiet electric handpieces (drills) to help eliminate the sound of the dental drill.

Surgically Clean Air Orchard Endodontics uses Surgically Clean Air Purifiers to improve the indoor air quality for our patients and our team. This system uses medical-grade air purifiers to remove contaminants from the air, ensuring a safe and clean environment. Most importantly, airborne viruses are removed and destroyed, helping to reduce the spread of illness.

Paperless Office At Orchard Endodontics, we are an environmentally friendly, digital office. Our practice software, The Digital Office (TDO), is uniquely specialized for endodontics. It allows our referring dentists to follow each step of their patients' endodontic treatment for a seamless line of communication. This safe, secure, HIPAA compliant software allows our patients to register and update their information remotely at their convenience.
